Wimbledon Shocker! Top Seeds Tumble - Who Will Survive?

Wimbledon is living up to its reputation for upsets! Day 2 saw a string of seeded players crashing out of the tournament, leaving tennis fans reeling. While World No. 1 Jannik Sinner cruised to victory, others weren't so lucky.

Gauff's Shock Exit

The biggest surprise of the day was Coco Gauff's defeat. The American second seed, fresh off her French Open triumph, fell to Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska in straight sets. Yastremska herself described it as the “win of her career”.

Seeds Suffer a Massacre

Gauff wasn't alone. A staggering 13 men's seeds were eliminated in the first round – a Wimbledon record since the introduction of 32 seeds in 2001. Nine women's seeds also perished. The total of eight top-10 seeds exiting across both singles draws marks the highest number at a Grand Slam in the professional era.

Zverev Falls in Marathon Match

Germany's Alexander Zverev, the third seed, was another high-profile casualty. He lost a grueling five-set match to France's Arthur Rinderknech, a battle that stretched over two days.

Sinner's Smooth Sailing

In contrast to the carnage around him, Jannik Sinner enjoyed a comfortable victory over fellow Italian Luca Nardi. Sinner dominated the match, showcasing his powerful serve and forehand. He has his sights set on improving on his previous Wimbledon performance, where he reached the semifinals.

“I am very happy to come back here, it’s a special place for me and playing against an Italian is very unfortunate for us but one has to go through so I’m happy that it’s me,” Sinner said after the match.

Fritz Survives a Scare

American Taylor Fritz, the world No. 5, narrowly avoided joining the exodus of seeds, surviving a five-set thriller against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

With so many unexpected results, Wimbledon 2025 is proving to be one of the most unpredictable tournaments in recent memory. Who will be next to fall?
