Wimbledon Shocker! Pegula Stunned in First Round Exit!

Wimbledon Woes: Pegula Out in Shock Defeat!

American tennis star Jessica Pegula, seeded third at Wimbledon, suffered a stunning first-round exit on Tuesday. Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto, ranked world number 116, delivered a decisive straight-sets victory, leaving Pegula reeling.

The match, played on Court Two, lasted a mere 58 minutes, with Cocciaretto dominating Pegula 6-2, 6-3. This defeat is a major setback for Pegula, the 2024 US Open finalist, who has yet to progress beyond the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

Pegula, visibly hampered by heavy strapping on her right knee, struggled to find her rhythm and appeared uncomfortable throughout the match. This loss continues a disappointing trend for the world number 3, who hasn't reached the quarterfinals in any of her Grand Slam appearances since losing last year's US Open final to Aryna Sabalenka.

For Cocciaretto, this victory marks only her second win against a top-10 player. The 24-year-old will now look to build on this momentum as she aims to surpass her best Grand Slam performance – a run to the last 16 at last year's French Open. Her previous best Wimbledon result was reaching the third round.
