SASSA Warns Public About Fake Job Advertisements
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is warning South Africans to be extra vigilant as fake job advertisements are circulating online. These scams, appearing mostly on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), falsely claim that SASSA is hiring for various positions.
These fraudulent posts often advertise roles such as “Finance Clerks 2025” and “Grant Administrators (x21)”, promising attractive salaries – reportedly around R22,412 per month – even without prior experience. They further mislead job seekers by mentioning popular locations, including SASSA’s Pretoria head office and other “selected SASSA offices in South Africa.”
A major red flag is that these adverts direct applicants to unofficial websites, completely unaffiliated with SASSA or any official government department. This is a clear indication of a scam.
How to Spot a Fake SASSA Job Advert
SASSA has denounced these fake job posts, emphasizing that all official vacancies are advertised only on their official website and trusted government platforms. Here's how to protect yourself:
- Verify the Website: Only trust job adverts posted on the official SASSA website or the official South African government website (.gov.za). If the link is anything else, proceed with caution.
- Be Wary of Unrealistic Salaries: Salaries that seem too good to be true, especially for entry-level positions requiring no experience, are a major red flag.
- Contact SASSA Directly: If you're unsure, contact SASSA directly through their official channels to verify the authenticity of the advertisement.
SASSA Gold Cards Still Valid
It's important to remember that SASSA Gold Cards remain valid beyond 31 May 2025. This means you don't need to apply for a 'new' SASSA card, irrespective of what the scammers say. Always rely on official information only. SASSA is urging South Africans to be extremely careful and avoid being scammed.
Remember, staying informed and verifying information directly with SASSA is crucial to protect yourself from these scams. Don't become a victim!
