Ex-KTVU Anchor Frank Somerville Arrested AGAIN! What Happened?

Former KTVU news anchor Frank Somerville has been arrested again, according to jail records. The arrest occurred in Oakland on Monday evening. Somerville is currently being held at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

Details surrounding the arrest are currently scarce. Jail records indicate he was arrested on suspicion of battery with serious bodily injury. The county's online inmate locator initially showed him in custody on Tuesday morning, but the record was later updated, suggesting he may have posted bail and been released.

The arrest reportedly occurred at 6:53 p.m. Oakland Police Department officials have not yet responded to requests for further information regarding the incident.

This incident is the latest in a series of personal struggles for Somerville. He became a prominent figure in Bay Area news when he succeeded Dennis Richmond as co-anchor of KTVU's 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts in 2008.

In June 2023, Somerville faced multiple arrests within a nine-hour span following confrontations with family members at a Berkeley residence. Authorities suspected intoxication in both incidents.

Somerville pleaded no contest to alcohol-related reckless driving, resulting in the dismissal of most charges stemming from the previous year's disputes with family members.

Prior to that, in December 2021, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in Oakland after a car crash. His blood alcohol level was reportedly .24, three times the legal limit. He pleaded no contest to the DUI charge in August 2022 and received a sentence including DUI classes and three years of probation, set to end in 2025.

KTVU suspended Somerville twice in 2021, once due to slurred speech and stumbling during a newscast. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
