Comedian Andrew Santino is making waves with his new Hulu special, "White Noise." Known for pushing boundaries and exploring potentially controversial topics, Santino found himself in a tug-of-war with Disney, the parent company of Hulu, over jokes targeting "Disney Adults."
The Mouse House Strikes Back
Santino revealed in an interview with Variety that Disney wasn't thrilled with his jokes about grown-ups who are obsessed with Disney and its theme parks. According to Santino, Disney swiftly contacted him after filming the special, eager to cut the jokes.
"They couldn’t wait to trim the fat on those jokes," Santino stated. "Candidly, we went back and forth, and they didn’t really enjoy having that stuff in there. We found a happy medium, and I was able to keep the jokes in there, but [the jokes] were manipulated. I’m not going to lie: They definitely changed the jokes."
A Comedian's Perspective
Santino expressed his frustration, arguing that he jokes about other controversial subjects in the special and didn't believe that poking fun at Disney adults was particularly outrageous. However, Disney disagreed, leading to a battle over creative control.
Santino's special promises to deliver his signature blend of observational humor and provocative takes. He aims to make the audience think and question, even if it means feeling a little uncomfortable. The special was filmed at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis, a city Santino praises for its diverse audience and vibrant drinking culture.
"White Noise" is now streaming on Hulu. Prepare for a comedic experience that might ruffle some feathers, even those belonging to the House of Mouse.
