KNUST SHS: Assistant Headmaster Sacked Over Viral Video

Eiii, trouble dey o! The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift action, sacking an assistant headmaster from KNUST Senior High School (KNUST SHS) following a shocking viral video. The video shows the assistant headmaster, identified as Charles Akwasi Aidoo, allegedly engaging in inappropriate conduct with a female student.

The 16-second video, filmed by the student herself, sparked outrage online. The GES quickly responded, stating that they are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness. According to GES Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the authorities are viewing the matter with utmost seriousness “to safeguard the integrity of the teaching profession.”

In a press release, the GES announced the immediate removal of Mr. Aidoo from his position and banned him from the KNUST SHS campus while investigations are underway. "Management in line wit our commitment to protect di integrity of di teaching profession and di welfare and safety of students, remove di assistant headmaster from office," the GES said.

This isn't the first time the GES has had to deal with such incidents. In November 2018, nine teachers and senior staff from various senior high schools were dismissed for sexual and immoral misconduct. The GES hopes that this latest action will serve as a strong deterrent to others.

GES Promises Thorough Investigation

The GES has assured the public that a full investigation will be conducted, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the established code of conduct. They also reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students. The statement also expressed the service’s commitment to uphold the highest standards of child protection, discipline, and professionalism in all schools.

Public Reaction

The incident has sparked a lot of conversation, with many Ghanaians calling for a wider scrutiny of teachers and school officials to expose others who may be abusing their positions of power. Education watchers are concerned about this development and the impact it could have on students.
