Currie Cup Showdown: Boland vs. Bulls - Don't Miss It!
The Sanlam Boland Kavaliers are the surprise package of the Carling Currie Cup! This weekend, they face a massive challenge as they host the Vodacom Bulls in Wellington on Sunday. Can they secure a hat-trick of home wins against top opposition?
Boland has already shocked the Toyota Cheetahs and the ADT Fidelity Lions at home, proving they are a force to be reckoned with. Their only loss was a narrow defeat in Kimberley, but their home form has been outstanding.
The Bulls, however, are coming off a disappointing loss to the Airlink Pumas. They'll be determined to bounce back, but injuries have hit their squad hard. Loosehead prop Dylan Smith is out for the rest of the tournament, and No 8 Jeandre Rudolph is doubtful for Sunday's clash. Coach Phiwe Nomlomo acknowledges the tough test ahead.
"Every game from now on is going to be a massive test," said Nomlomo. He also highlighted the unique dynamic between the two teams, given the shared ownership of Johann Rupert and Patrice Motsepe. "Against Boland, it’s a bit more personal. They’re our brothers on the other side [of the country], so there’s a bit of extra niggle when you play against family."
Youthful Bulls Team?
The Bulls might field a youthful team as they integrate URC players with domestic competition players. But even a young Bulls team is a formidable opponent. Boland will need to be at their best to secure another victory.
Boland coach believes their players will be motivated to prove they belong on this stage. "I think it’s to prove a point that they have arrived and they belong on this stage. They’ve got massive cohesion and play for their community, so there’s something much bigger driving them."
Lions Look to Rebound
Meanwhile, the Lions will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Boland when they travel to Nelspruit to face the Pumas. The Pumas are riding high after their win over the Bulls.
This Currie Cup season is shaping up to be a thrilling competition. Don't miss the action this weekend!
