The DHL Stormers have unveiled a brand-new logo, marking a significant shift in their visual identity after almost three decades. The Cape Town-based rugby team hopes this fresh look will inspire them as they compete in Europe's top rugby tournaments.
Gone is the iconic 'S' with the prominent lightning bolt. The new logo takes inspiration from the blue and white hoops of the Western Province jersey, a design element deeply rooted in the region's rugby heritage. It also subtly incorporates the architectural design of the Cape Town Stadium, where the Stormers play their home games.
While the lightning bolt remains a part of the new design, it's been toned down, suggesting a more modern and refined aesthetic. The team's official Twitter account (@THESTORMERS) highlighted the key elements of the logo: "The hoops of our jersey, the shape of our stadium, the iconic bolt and constant movement towards a better future. #inittogether"
This rebranding comes as the Stormers aim to solidify their position as consistent contenders in both the Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) and the Investec Champions Cup. Having already clinched the inaugural URC title, the team is hungry for more silverware.
Furthermore, the Stormers have learned their fate in the 2025/26 Investec Champions Cup, being drawn into Pool Three. They will face familiar foes, having previously encountered all three teams in the competition. After finishing fifth in the 2024/25 Vodacom United Rugby Championship, the DHL Stormers have secured their spot in the Investec Champions Cup for the fourth consecutive season.
What do the fans think of the new logo?
The reaction to the new logo has been mixed, with some fans praising the modern design and its connection to the team's heritage, while others expressed nostalgia for the classic 'S' logo. Only time will tell if the new logo will bring the Stormers the luck and success they are hoping for.
