Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a dominant performance, securing their place in the MTN8 semifinals with a resounding 4-0 victory over Richards Bay at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The Brazilians join Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United, and Stellenbosch FC in the final four of the prestigious Top Eight Cup competition.

Sundowns' Early Dominance

Sundowns asserted their dominance from the outset, taking the lead in the 10th minute. Marcelo Allende's corner kick found Iqraam Rayners unmarked at the far post, who headed home to give Sundowns a 1-0 advantage. The Brazilians continued to press, with Arthur Sales coming close to doubling the lead just minutes later.

Own Goal Extends Lead

Sundowns' dominance continued throughout the first half. In injury time, a low cross from Teboho Mokoena resulted in an own goal by Richards Bay defender Simphiwe Mcineka, extending Sundowns' lead to 2-0 before the break.

Second-Half Surge

Richards Bay made a double substitution at the start of the second half, but Sundowns quickly extinguished any hopes of a comeback. Iqraam Rayners scored his second goal of the match in the 54th minute, making it 3-0. Young substitute Siyabonga Mabena added a fourth goal in the 76th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory for Sundowns.

MTN8 Semifinals Await

With this impressive win, Mamelodi Sundowns advance to the MTN8 semifinals, where they will face a tough challenge against Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United, or Stellenbosch FC. The semifinals are scheduled to be played over two legs on the weekends of 16-17 September.
