Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has announced a safety recall affecting four popular models: the EcoSport, Puma, Everest, and Ranger. If you own one of these vehicles, it's crucial to check if your car is included in the recall.
Ranger and Everest Recall: Potential Engine Stall
Certain Ford Ranger bakkie and Everest SUV models equipped with the 3.0L V6 engine, manufactured between June 2022 and March 2025, are subject to a recall. Ford has identified a potential issue where the left-side camshaft sprocket may fracture. This could lead to the engine stalling unexpectedly, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. A total of 1,050 vehicles in Southern Africa are affected, with 995 in South Africa, 17 in Botswana, 34 in Namibia, and 4 in Swaziland.
Puma Recall: Fuel Leak Risk
Some Puma crossover models produced between November 2021 and September 2024 are also being recalled. The concern here is a fuel line that could rub against a bracket, potentially causing a fuel leak over time. This leak could result in an engine stall or, in the worst-case scenario, a fire if an ignition source is present. Signs of this issue include a fuel odour, fuel leaking under the vehicle, or smoke from fuel on a hot surface. 1,796 vehicles in Southern Africa are impacted (1,775 in SA, 6 in Botswana, 13 in Namibia, and 2 in Swaziland).
EcoSport Recall: Half Shaft Issue
Specific Ford EcoSport models manufactured between April 2021 and July 2022 might have front half shafts that weren't fully inserted into the transmission during assembly. Ford is addressing this potential defect.
