Monnapule Saleng, the 27-year-old former Orlando Pirates winger, has broken his silence after a surprise loan move to newly-promoted PSL side Orbit College. After being sidelined by the Buccaneers, Saleng resurfaces at his former club, hoping to reignite his career.
"I am very happy to be back home," Saleng stated, acknowledging the difficulty of the decision. His return to Orbit College marks a significant chapter in his career, as he aims to bring his experience to the ambitious North West Province team.
Orbit College made history by securing promotion to the Betway Premiership, overcoming Cape Town City and Casric Stars in the PSL playoffs. Their achievement is a testament to their dedication and ambition.
Saleng's Hopes and Orbit College's Ambitions
Saleng believes his experience will be invaluable to Orbit FC. "I feel very emotional and expect to use my experience to add value. But it is not going to be easy to play in the Premiership," he cautioned, acknowledging the challenges ahead.
Club chairman Dika Mokoena, also the principal of the TVET college, emphasizes the club's community focus. "Our mission is to play in the premiership league to help on uplifting the local communities in the province and giving hope to students who play football in TVET colleges," he explained.
Coach and Government Support
Coach Pogiso Makhoye remains at the helm, confident in his squad's ability to compete. "We have proved a lot of people wrong after we were labeled as chokers in recent seasons. We don’t have a big budget but aim to compete talent wise with well-established sides."
The North West government has pledged its support to Orbit College, ensuring they can overcome any obstacles they may face in their debut Premiership season. The team's journey represents a beacon of hope for the province and its aspiring footballers.
