Monnapule Saleng, the former Orlando Pirates winger, has broken his silence after a loan move to PSL newcomers Orbit College. The 27-year-old had been largely quiet since being sidelined by the Buccaneers, but has now resurfaced at the newly-promoted side, much to the surprise of many.
Saleng's loan move to Orbit College is a significant development, offering him a chance to revive his career after a period of inactivity at Pirates. He expressed his happiness at returning to his roots, acknowledging the decision wasn't easy.
Orbit College recently made history by securing promotion to the Betway Premiership, edging out Cape Town City and Casric Stars in the PSL playoffs. This marks a remarkable achievement for the community-based side, representing the North West Province.
Saleng's Hopes and Expectations
Saleng believes his experience will be invaluable to Orbit FC as they embark on their Premiership journey. He stated, "I’m happy to be back to where it all started for me in football. I feel very emotional and expects to use my experience to add value. But it is not going to be easy to play in the Premiership."
Orbit College's Vision
Club chairman Dika Mokoena emphasized the club's community focus and commitment to uplifting local communities and providing opportunities for students in TVET colleges. "Our mission is to play in the premiership league to help on uplifting the local communities in the province and giving hope to students who play football in TVET colleges," he said.
Coach's Confidence
Coach Pogiso Makhoye, retained as mentor, is confident in his squad's ability to compete despite budget constraints. He stated, "We have proved a lot of people wrong after we were labeled as chokers in recent seasons. We don’t have a big budget but aim to compete talent wise with well-established sides."
The North West government has pledged its support to Orbit College, ensuring they can overcome the challenges ahead. Can Saleng help Orbit College stay in the PSL?
