Gregg Wallace: 'Deeply Sorry' After MasterChef Claims Surface! Shock!

Former MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace has issued a public apology following the upholding of numerous allegations regarding his behaviour on the show. The claims, which span a 19-year period, include allegations of inappropriate sexual language and humour, unwanted physical contact, and being in a state of undress. The accusations led to his dismissal from the popular cooking programme.

Wallace stated he is "deeply sorry for any distress" caused and that he "never set out to harm or humiliate" anyone. He acknowledged that some of his humour and language "missed the mark". The report into the allegations was conducted by an independent law firm, Lewis Silkin, commissioned by MasterChef's production company, Banijay UK, following a BBC News investigation.

The investigation uncovered a total of 83 allegations against Wallace, with a significant portion of the substantiated claims relating to inappropriate sexual language and humour. The report also highlighted instances of culturally insensitive or racist comments. In addition, ten standalone allegations were made against other individuals, with two being substantiated, involving inappropriate language (swearing and racist language).

Wallace revealed that he was diagnosed with autism during the investigation, which he believes helps explain some of his actions. He stated that this late diagnosis has helped him understand how he is "perceived". However, he also criticised the BBC, claiming the corporation left him "exposed to trial by media" and that the situation has been "brutal".

Sources close to Wallace have also suggested his autism contributes to his behaviour, citing a "hypersensitivity" to tight clothing as a possible explanation for the allegations of being in a state of undress. The report concluded that the number of substantiated allegations made Wallace's return to MasterChef "untenable".

What Next For MasterChef?

A decision regarding the new series of MasterChef, filmed last year featuring Wallace, is yet to be made. Downing Street has welcomed the BBC's decision to "sever ties" with Wallace, emphasising the need for appropriate measures to prevent future abuses of power.
