Tragedy has struck the yachting community with the alleged murder of a young South African crew member aboard a luxury superyacht in the Bahamas. Paige Bell, a 20-year-old from Johannesburg, was found dead in the engine room of the vessel on July 3rd, just days before her 21st birthday.
According to reports, Bell's body was discovered partially undressed, and she had sustained injuries suggesting a possible sexual assault and struggle. A 39-year-old Mexican national, Brigido Munoz, also a crew member and an engineer on the yacht named 'Far From It', has been charged with her murder.
Authorities found Munoz with injuries to his arms, believed to be a suicide attempt. He was hospitalised before being charged and subsequently denied bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 20th.
Bell's family and friends are devastated by the loss. A former colleague described her as more than a teammate, saying, "Paige was more than a teammate, she was family. Her radiant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless compassion made an unforgettable impact on everyone lucky enough to know her."
The 'Far From It' superyacht, where Bell and Munoz worked, charters for nearly $140,000 per week. The incident occurred while the yacht was anchored off Harbour Island in the Bahamas.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Bell's former colleagues to support her family. Her mother plans to celebrate her birthday with her favorite red velvet cake, a poignant reminder of the young life tragically cut short.
Investigation Ongoing
The Royal Bahamas Police Force is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding Bell's death. The yachting community is in mourning, remembering Paige Bell as a bright and promising young woman.

The South African community and the international yachting fraternity are rallying to support Bell's family during this difficult time. Condolences and tributes continue to pour in, highlighting the impact she had on those who knew her.
