SARS Urges Taxpayers to Go Digital!
Filing season is officially underway, and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is encouraging all taxpayers to embrace digital platforms for a smoother, safer, and more convenient experience. Commissioner Edward Kieswetter emphasized that taxpayers can manage their tax affairs from the comfort of their homes, avoiding long queues and the winter chill.
"Taxpayers do not have to expose themselves to the elements in this cold weather and stand in queues. They can conduct their tax affairs in the comfort of their homes rather than pay taxi fares," Kieswetter stated during a visit to the Alberton Taxpayer Service Centre, accompanied by Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana.
Minister Godongwana expressed satisfaction with SARS's readiness to deliver a successful filing season. Many taxpayers visiting the service centre were updating their registered details, including email addresses, banking information, and cellphone numbers, or settling outstanding tax debts.
Skip the Branch, Book Online (If You Must!)
SARS reiterates that visiting a branch is often unnecessary. However, if a visit is unavoidable, taxpayers are strongly advised to book an appointment in advance to minimize waiting times.
Auto-Assessments: Simple and Automatic
SARS has already begun issuing Auto Assessments to taxpayers with less complex tax affairs. If you agree with your Auto Assessment, no further action is required. Acceptance is automatic, so there's no need to manually accept it. Just wait for the SMS/email notification before logging in to eFiling or the SARS MobiApp.
Refunds less than R100 will be automatically paid into your bank account within 72 hours of assessment completion.
