Ried Star Berger: 'No Holding Back' Against 1860 Munich!

Putzleinsdorf native David Berger, 20, is gearing up for a crucial test match with SV Ried against TSV 1860 Munich. Berger, who joined the Bundesliga newcomers a year ago, sat down to discuss his journey and the importance of pre-season friendlies.

From Putzleinsdorf to the Bundesliga: Berger's Rise

"I'm very satisfied with my first year as a professional," Berger stated. "Coming from the OÖ Liga to SV Ried, who were promotion favourites, and contributing to our Bundesliga promotion makes me incredibly grateful and proud. Staying fit throughout the year allowed me to absorb everything and gain valuable experience. Winning the championship was the ultimate reward."

Berger began his footballing journey at Union Fußball Putzleinsdorf at the tender age of three. He made his debut for the first team at 15 in the Bezirksliga and helped the club achieve promotion to the Landesliga. At 18, he moved to St. Martin in the OÖ Liga before making the leap to professional football with SV Ried last summer.

The Path to Professionalism

"A turning point in my career was entering senior football so early, which helped me mature physically and mentally. The OÖ Liga was also an important stepping stone in establishing myself in adult football at a good level."

When asked if he always dreamed of becoming a professional, Berger responded affirmatively. "When I was younger, my biggest goal was always to become a professional footballer. It wasn't always easy, and I had to make some sacrifices. But I am very happy that I persevered, and I can now live my dream."

Facing 1860 Munich: No Room for Complacency

Regarding the upcoming test match against TSV 1860 Munich, Berger emphasised the importance of taking the game seriously. "Restraint is not appropriate. Even though it's a friendly, it's an important test for us to see where we stand and work on our tactics. We want to show what we're capable of." He added that playing in his hometown of Putzleinsdorf made the match even more special. "It's always great to play in front of familiar faces and give something back to the community that supported me from the beginning."
