Nathan Jones is banking on a return to The Valley to reignite Charlton Athletic's Championship campaign this Saturday against Portsmouth (12:30pm GMT kickoff). After a tough run of form, Jones is eager to capitalise on home advantage and the Addicks' impressive record at The Valley this season, where they've averaged 2.3 points per game.
Addicks Aim to Halt Losing Streak
Charlton have suffered four consecutive defeats, conceding a worrying 12 goals in the process. Jones acknowledges the difficult spell, exacerbated by a string of injuries that have forced him to "patch things up." However, he remains optimistic about the upcoming home fixtures, including a clash against Middlesbrough on December 9th.
"December's a big month for us," Jones stated. "It'll define what we do, and we've got to stay in and around it. We've got to pick up results and then once we do that, we'll be able to strengthen in January, we'll get people back, and then we can be a bit more us."
Injury Woes Plague Both Sides
Both Charlton and Portsmouth are grappling with injury concerns. Amari'i Bell is a doubt for Charlton, while Reece Burke, Charlie Kelman, and Matty Godden remain sidelined. New signing Jerome Roussilon is, however, available for selection.
Portsmouth's injury list includes Conor Shaughnessy, Connor Ogilvie, Jacob Farrell, Harvey Blair, Franco Umeh, and Thomas Waddingham. Andre Dozzell is suspended, although Terry Devlin returns from a ban.
Historical Advantage for Charlton
Charlton boast a strong record against Portsmouth, remaining unbeaten in their last six encounters. However, recent form suggests a tight contest, with Portsmouth struggling to find the net in recent matches and Charlton's defence proving leaky.
