The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has been dramatically shortened to 54 holes due to severe weather conditions, specifically high winds, on Saturday. The final round is now set to take place on Sunday across all three courses: the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns. After Friday's challenging weather, which suspended the second round, players returned on Saturday morning to complete their unfinished holes.
Wind Wreaks Havoc on Day Three
Round three commenced in the early afternoon, but play was quickly suspended as wind gusts reached a staggering 56mph. Tournament director Mikael Eriksson confirmed that conditions left them with no choice but to cancel the third round, rescheduling it to start afresh on Sunday morning with a two-tee start at all three venues between 9am and 11.23am.
MacIntyre and Sterne Share the Lead
Scotland's own Robert MacIntyre and South Africa's Richard Sterne are currently tied for the lead at 12 under par. MacIntyre will tee off at 9.22am on Sunday alongside defending champion Tyrrell Hatton at the Old Course. Sterne is paired with Marcus Kinhult, starting at Carnoustie at 10.28am. Louis Oosthuizen is lurking just one shot behind the leaders.
Key Tee Times to Watch
- Robert MacIntyre & Tyrrell Hatton (Old Course, 9.22am)
- Richard Sterne & Marcus Kinhult (Carnoustie, 10.28am)
- Louis Oosthuizen & Cameron Smith (Old Course, 10.28am)
The reduction to 54 holes means there will be no cut, and the entire field will compete in the final round. This promises an exciting finish as players battle for the prestigious title amidst the challenging Scottish links.
