India vs West Indies: Test Series Showdown! Who Will Dominate?

India are switching gears back to Test cricket after their Asia Cup Twenty20 victory, ready to face a weakened West Indies team. The first match of the two-Test series kicks off on Thursday in Ahmedabad, with India looking to continue their winning streak.

However, the Asia Cup victory wasn't without controversy. India claims they were denied the chance to lift the trophy because they refused to accept it from the Asian Cricket Council chairman, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Despite this, the team is focused on the upcoming Test series.

Shubman Gill emphasized the mental shift required when switching formats. "It was a quick turnaround... switching formats is more mental than it is about technique," he said. He added that while fatigue can be mental for batsmen, he feels fresh and ready for the challenge.

West Indies Face Uphill Battle

The West Indies are facing significant challenges. They're without key injured fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph. Shamar Joseph was their top wicket-taker in their previous Test series, where they were whitewashed 3-0 by Australia. They also suffered a T20 series loss to Nepal earlier this week.

To bolster their lineup, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, son of former captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is likely to play his first Test since January 2024. Middle-order batsman Alick Athanaze has also been brought back into the squad. West Indies are hoping these changes will "transform their fortunes" at the top of the order.
