Millwall's Climb: Can They Crack the Championship Top Spots?

Millwall manager Alex Neil admits the team has had to adapt their tactics due to a string of injuries. Despite the challenges, the Lions secured their first home win of the Championship season, defeating Watford 1-0. Neil believes a fully fit squad would see them sitting higher than their current 10th-place position.

“The only frustration is with a fuller squad we'd have even more points on the board - we'd certainly be more creative in the final third,” Neil told BBC Radio London. He also noted a shift in team morale following the Watford victory, stating that the training ground atmosphere has improved significantly.

The return of midfielder Billy Mitchell and striker Mihailo Ivanovic for Saturday's clash against Swansea is a welcome boost. Neil highlighted the team's adaptability, pointing out the tactical adjustments made to accommodate new players and leverage their strengths.

“We've tinkered with some things in terms of changing shape so there have been little tweaks we've had to make to ensure, with the guys coming into the team, we play to their strengths,” added Neil.

He praised the players who have stepped up, saying, “The lads have been brilliant in terms of the ones that have been called into the team to play prominent roles and still get us results.” Millwall fans will be hoping this flexibility and resilience can propel them further up the Championship table.

Key Players Return for Swansea Showdown

The availability of Mitchell and Ivanovic will provide Neil with more options in midfield and attack, potentially unlocking more creativity in the final third. A win against Swansea could see Millwall close the gap on the playoff places.

Tactical Flexibility is Key

Neil's willingness to adapt the team's formation and approach has been crucial in navigating the injury crisis. This tactical flexibility will be vital as the season progresses and Millwall look to maintain their momentum.
