Aussie Teen Gout Gout Shocks Tokyo! Lyles Predicts Sprint Stardom

The 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo have unearthed a rising star! 17-year-old Australian sprinter, Gout Gout, has impressed reigning world champion Noah Lyles, who believes Gout possesses generational talent.

Gout's Semifinal Debut

Gout Gout made his global senior championships debut in the men's 200m semifinals, clocking 20.36 seconds. While this wasn't enough to reach the final, his performance showcased immense potential. He also aimed to break the Australian national record of 20.02 and become the first Aussie to legally run under 20 seconds. He has previously run 19.84 at the National Athletics Championships in Perth, but this was achieved with an illegal wind reading.

Lyles' High Praise

Noah Lyles, the Paris Olympics 100m gold medallist, is convinced of Gout's capabilities. "He's (Gout) more talented (at 17) than I was," Lyles stated, recalling his own times of 10.14 (100m) and 20.18 (200m) at the same age. "Gout's an amazing kid. He's got a great head on him, a great team around him."

Lyles emphasized the importance of consistent training for young athletes transitioning to professional careers. He noted Gout's ability to handle the demands and his solid support system. Lyles also highlighted the competitiveness of the 200m event, with athletes like Letsile Tebogo and Andre De Grasse also progressing to the semi-finals.

The future looks bright for Gout Gout. With Lyles' backing and his own dedication, the young Australian sprinter is poised to make waves in the world of athletics. Keep an eye on this rising star as he continues to develop and chase his dreams on the global stage!
