What a finish! Dilshan Madushanka's incredible last-over hat-trick secured a nail-biting seven-run victory for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe in Harare. The first of two One-Day Internationals delivered a spectacle that will be talked about for ages, showcasing the unpredictable nature of cricket.
Zimbabwe Close, But No Cigar
Zimbabwe looked set to clinch the win, needing just 10 runs from the final six balls with five wickets remaining. Sikandar Raza, batting brilliantly on 92, was on strike. However, Madushanka had other plans.
Madushanka's Magic
The left-arm seamer bowled Raza with the first ball of the over, uprooting his middle stump as he attempted a sweep. He then dismissed Brad Evans, caught at short fine leg, and Richard Ngarava, clean bowled, with his next two deliveries, completing a stunning hat-trick and turning the game on its head.
"I am just so happy to do this on my comeback. Very happy that we executed our collective plans at the death," said a jubilant Madushanka.
Sri Lanka's Batting Performance
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted a total of 298-6 after winning the toss and batting first. A late flurry of boundaries propelled them to a competitive score.
- Pathum Nissanka top-scored with 76.
- Janith Liyanage contributed a rapid, unbeaten 70 off just 47 balls.
- Kamindu Mendis added valuable runs with a 36-ball 57.
Zimbabwe's Early Struggles
Zimbabwe's reply got off to a disastrous start, with Brian Bennett and Brendan Taylor both falling to Fernando in the first over, leaving them reeling at 0-2. Despite a valiant effort, they ultimately fell short.
The second ODI is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue. Will Zimbabwe bounce back, or will Sri Lanka continue their winning streak? Tune in to find out!
