SASSA has officially announced the payment dates for the Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant for August 2025, currently valued at R370 per month. Beneficiaries can expect their funds to be disbursed between Wednesday, 27 August and Saturday, 30 August 2025.
The SRD grant, a lifeline for millions of unemployed South Africans, operates on monthly cycles, with payments typically processed during the final week of each month. SASSA encourages all beneficiaries to check their individual status on the official SRD portal (srd.sassa.gov.za) to confirm approval and view their exact payment date.
"Beneficiaries are reminded that payments do not all occur on the same day," SASSA stated. "Each approved applicant will receive an SMS notification once their funds are available."
For those receiving payments directly into their bank accounts, funds may reflect within 2–3 working days after processing, depending on the bank involved. Beneficiaries who prefer collecting their grants from retail outlets or via cash send services must await the official SMS confirmation before heading to collection points. This will help avoid long queues and potential delays.
September 2025 Grant Payment Dates
SASSA has also confirmed the September 2025 payment dates for all major social grants:
- Old age grant: September 2
- Disability grant: September 3
- All other grants (including child support, foster care, and SRD grants): September 4
SASSA urges beneficiaries to plan their visits to payment points carefully and avoid rushing to collection sites on the first day of disbursement to prevent overcrowding.
Vigilance Against Unauthorised Deductions
SASSA has also addressed the critical issue of unauthorised deductions from social grants. The agency emphasizes that no deductions should be made without the beneficiary's explicit and informed consent. If you notice any suspicious deductions from your grant payments, take immediate action.
Reporting Unauthorised Deductions:
- In-person Reporting: Visit your nearest SASSA office to lodge a complaint and seek assistance.
- SMS Dispute Process: Send your ID number along with the name of the financial services provider involved to 34548 to challenge incorrect or unauthorised deductions.
SASSA continues to urge all grant recipients to remain vigilant, protect their personal information, and promptly report any irregularities.
