Kaizer Chiefs are still hunting for a striker before the transfer window slams shut, but a new twist has emerged! It seems the Amakhosi are prioritizing a local signing to avoid using their last remaining foreign player spot.
Ighodaro's Future Uncertain?
Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro has been heavily linked with a move to Naturena. However, the deal appears to be hanging in the balance as Chiefs reportedly wait to see if Ighodaro can secure his Permanent Residence Permit (PRP). This would allow him to be registered as a local player, freeing up that crucial foreign spot.
Sources close to the club suggest that management is keen to sign a striker who can be registered as local. This also impacts the potential signing of Dzenan Zajmovic, formerly of TS Galaxy, as he doesn't qualify for the local spot.
Foreign Spots Filled… Almost!
Chiefs currently have four foreign players on their books: Fiacre Ntwari, Inacio Miguel, Makabi Lilepo and Flavio Silva. Ethan Chislett, who was born in Durban, has now received his South African documentation, meaning he no longer occupies a foreign spot.
Assistant coach Kaze has stated that the club will only make further signings if an opportunity presents itself that is “worth it.” He emphasized that they won't fill the foreign spot “just because of filling it up.”
What Next for Chiefs?
- Will Ighodaro secure his PRP and become a local player?
- Will Chiefs identify and sign a suitable local striker?
- Could a compelling foreign option still emerge before the September 22nd deadline?
The clock is ticking, and the Amakhosi faithful are eagerly awaiting news of a new striker to bolster their attacking options. Stay tuned for more updates!
