Dartmouth is buzzing with activity! From successful charity events to serious allegations against Dartmouth College, here's a roundup of the latest news.
Dartmouth Rotary's Duck Race: A Quacking Success!
The Dartmouth Rotary Club's annual duck race was a splashing success, raising over £3,000 for charity. Over 1,000 plastic ducks took to the water, delighting crowds at the Royal Avenue Gardens. The funds raised will benefit the Devon Air Ambulance, Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay, and local youth organisations. Keith Barker, the 'duck master' resplendent in a yellow duck costume, hailed the event as an 'outstanding success' and thanked everyone who contributed. The race, a highlight of the summer fete, saw families enjoying the warm sunshine and various stalls.
Former Dartmouth Coach Sues College, Alleges Blacklisting
In more serious news, Justin Wood, a former Dartmouth cross country head coach, has filed a federal lawsuit against Dartmouth College. Wood alleges that the college “blacklisted” him, damaging his reputation and hindering his employment prospects. The lawsuit also names Porscha Dobson Harnden, former director of Dartmouth track and field and cross country, as a defendant.
Wood claims he raised concerns about Harnden's leadership, citing potential violations of Ivy League and NCAA policies, potential admissions fraud, and laxities concerning student-athlete health and safety. After raising these concerns, Wood alleges he was offered a severance agreement which included a non-disparagement clause.
The lawsuit claims that during a background check for a head coach position at New York University (NYU), NYU was informed that Wood had been blacklisted. Dartmouth College has declined to comment on the lawsuit and Wood's allegations.
