Mills to Start! Stroud Sits Out Texans' Preseason Opener!

Houston Texans fans eager to see rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud in action will have to wait a little longer. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Stroud is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, veteran Davis Mills will take the reins as the starting quarterback.

Mills Gets the Nod

With the Texans opting to rest several key starters for the game, Mills will get the opportunity to lead the offense. This provides a valuable chance for the third-year player to showcase his abilities and build chemistry with the team's receiving corps.

When Will Stroud Play?

Texans fans shouldn't despair, as Stroud's next chance to see game action is slated for August 16th against the Carolina Panthers. This game will be a crucial opportunity for the highly touted rookie to gain valuable experience before the regular season kicks off.

Schultz Also Sidelined

Joining Stroud on the sidelines is tight end Dalton Schultz. Also reported by Aaron Wilson, Schultz, who is expected to be the Texans' primary tight end, is among the key players who will be sitting out Saturday's contest. Like Stroud, Schultz may see his first preseason action on August 16th against the Panthers. Schultz recorded a 53/532/2 receiving line in 17 regular-season games with Houston in 2024.

Chubb Out Too

Running back Chubb (head) is also not slated to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Looking Ahead

While the absence of Stroud and Schultz may be disappointing for some fans, it's a common practice during the preseason to prioritize player health and evaluate depth. The August 16th game against the Panthers should provide a more comprehensive look at the Texans' potential for the upcoming season.
