Bix 7 Race Delayed! Weather Threatens Davenport's Iconic Run

Davenport, Iowa is buzzing with anticipation for the 51st annual Quad-City Times Bix 7! Thousands of runners have gathered, not just from the United States, but from around the globe, ready to tackle the iconic seven-mile course through downtown Davenport, ending along the scenic Mississippi River.

However, Mother Nature has thrown a curveball. Race officials are closely monitoring the weather forecast, and due to the potential for heavy rain, lightning, and a flash flood watch, the race has been postponed until 9:00 AM. The safety of participants, volunteers, and the community is the top priority. Stay tuned to social media pages and KWQC TV6 for the latest updates.

What to Expect on Race Day

The main event, featuring both the seven-mile Bix 7 and the two-mile Prairie Farms Quick Bix, is now scheduled to kick off at 9:00 AM. Both races start at the base of the challenging Brady Street Hill. Runners are advised to be in place by 8:45 AM and to arrive downtown as early as possible to avoid potential congestion.

The Courses: A Quick Overview

  • Bix 7 (7-mile): Starts at Brady and 4th Streets, ascends Brady Street Hill, turns right onto Bix (Kirkwood) Boulevard, then up Jersey Ridge Road, right onto Middle Road, and finally, right onto McClellan Boulevard with a turnaround at River Drive. The course then follows the same route back.
  • Quick Bix (2-mile): Begins on Brady Street alongside the Bix 7 runners, then turns right onto 15th Street, right onto Perry Street, and left onto 4th Street to reach the finish line.

Following the race, all runners are invited to a post-race party near the Quad City Times building, featuring live music and food. KWQC TV6 will provide exclusive live-broadcast coverage, starting with pre-race coverage at 8:30 AM.

More Than Just Saturday's Races

The Quad-City Times Bix 7 week includes various events. The Bechtel Trusts Senior Bix, geared towards runners aged 50 and up, took place earlier in the week. Thursday night featured the exciting Brady Street Sprints. This event has grown significantly since its humble beginning in 1975 with only 84 runners.
