Packers Desperate? 3-Time Pro Bowler Could Save Their Season!

Packers Eye Veteran Edge Rusher to Boost Defense

The Green Bay Packers are looking to bolster their defense as they head into the new season. Despite a strong showing last year, with the defense ranking sixth in the NFL in points allowed, analysts believe there's still room for improvement. One name being floated is three-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder suggests the Packers sign Clowney to create competition for Lukas Van Ness, who hasn't quite lived up to expectations. Van Ness is currently slated to start opposite Rashan Gary, making the addition of a proven veteran like Clowney a potentially smart move.

Clowney: A Potential Steal for Green Bay?

Clowney, recently released by the Carolina Panthers, is seeking his seventh NFL team. Despite being 32, he remains productive, recording 5.5 sacks last season. While not top-tier, it demonstrates his ability to still get to the quarterback. A change of scenery could also spark a resurgence, reminiscent of his 9.5-sack season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.

Beyond Clowney, the Packers are also evaluating their current edge rushers. The depth chart includes Kingsley Enagbare and Deslin Alexandre. While this group may lack star power, several players have shown flashes of potential. Rookies Oliver and Sorrell also present intriguing options.

Watt Trade?

There are also reports that T.J. Watt may be unhappy with his contract situation. Although the Steelers don't seem willing to move him, outside interest is likely to increase. Watt would be an intriguing addition at the right price, but has dealt with numerous injuries.

Ultimately, the Packers have several options to improve their edge room. Whether they pursue a veteran like Clowney or rely on internal development, the team is focused on maximizing its defensive potential.
