NBA Buzz: Hawks & Magic Eye Timberwolves' Nickeil Alexander-Walker!

The NBA rumor mill is churning as teams prepare for the upcoming season. Two teams, the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic, are reportedly interested in acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

Hawks Looking to Bolster Roster

The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly among several teams interested in Alexander-Walker, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. The Hawks are looking to add a versatile player who can contribute on both ends of the court.

Magic Also in the Mix

The Orlando Magic are also reportedly in the running for Alexander-Walker. Fischer notes that the Clippers are also interested. Orlando's front office isn't done dealing after landing Desmond Bane and getting its desired draft prospects in Jase Richardson and Noah Penda. NBA insider Marc Stein reported on the possibility of Alexander-Walker seeking a deal around the $14.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception and calling Orlando a team to watch.

Alexander-Walker's Strengths

Alexander-Walker, a 26-year-old, has emerged as a reliable 3-and-D player. In his second full season with Minnesota, Alexander-Walker averaged 9.4 points while shooting 38.1 percent from the perimeter and playing all 82 games. He is known for his defensive abilities and his ability to guard multiple positions. While the Magic may need a true point guard, Alexander-Walker is a good positional defender who has a large enough frame to guard forwards in small-ball scenarios and otherwise.

What's Next?

It remains to be seen where Alexander-Walker will end up, but it's clear that he is a player in demand. As offseason transactions enter full swing, it would not be surprising to see president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and general manager Anthony Parker pursue the 26-year-old to help round out the roster. Stay tuned for more updates as the NBA offseason progresses!
