Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal Clash in Ari Aster's 'Eddington' Trailer

The first full-length trailer for Ari Aster's highly anticipated film, 'Eddington,' has arrived, offering a glimpse into a truly wild and unsettling cinematic experience. Set against the backdrop of May 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and social unrest, the contemporary Western promises a thrilling and thought-provoking narrative.

The trailer introduces Joaquin Phoenix as Sheriff Joe Cross, a character slowly unraveling as the small town of Eddington is gripped by the pandemic and rising tensions. He finds himself embroiled in a conflict with Mayor Ted Garcia, played by Pedro Pascal, who is seeking reelection. The ensuing feud is depicted through scenes of gunfire, protests, and violence, culminating in a memorable face-slapping moment between Pascal and Phoenix.

Adding to the star-studded cast, Emma Stone makes an appearance as Joe's wife, Louise, alongside Deirdre O'Connell as Louise's mother. Austin Butler portrays Vernon Jefferson Peak, seemingly a religious zealot. The film also features Luke Grimes, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr.

Ari Aster describes 'Eddington' as exploring the impact of the pandemic on society. "Covid felt like an inflection point, where the link to the old society we lived in was finally cut," Aster told The New York Times. "That old idea of democracy being something that could be any sort of countervailing force to power and tech and finance, it went away completely at that moment, and it’s where I think we became fully isolated."

'Eddington' had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 18. Prepare for a cinematic journey that blends Western themes with contemporary anxieties in Ari Aster's unique and unsettling style.
