Ford Announces Major Recalls: What You Need to Know
Ford Motor Company is issuing several significant recalls affecting over a million vehicles due to a range of safety concerns. These recalls, reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), stem from software glitches to potential engine failures and electrical issues.
Software Glitch Impacts Rearview Cameras
One of the most extensive recalls involves a software issue affecting the rearview cameras in over one million Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Models impacted include the popular Ford F-150 (2021-2024), Ford Bronco (2021-2024), and others. The software malfunction can cause the rearview camera to fail, potentially increasing the risk of accidents while reversing.
This issue raises concerns about the increasing reliance on advanced driver-assistance systems. While these features enhance safety, their failure highlights the importance of maintaining fundamental driving skills, such as manually checking surroundings while backing up.
Engine and Electrical Concerns Prompt Additional Recalls
In addition to the software glitch, Ford is recalling other vehicles for separate issues. Over 150 Transit, F-150, and Explorer vehicles from 2025 are being recalled due to potential defects in engine parts that could lead to engine failure. Furthermore, over 6,500 vehicles, including the 2024-2025 Lincoln Nautilus, 2023-2025 Escape, 2023 and 2025 Lincoln Corsair, Maverick, and Bronco Sport, are being recalled because the engine block heater can overheat when plugged in. Dealers will inspect and replace the electrical cord if necessary, free of charge.
Another recall impacts more than 30,000 (30,679) of Ford’s 2024 Nautilus vehicles because the display screen can freeze.
What Should Ford Owners Do?
Ford will notify affected owners about the recalls. Owners can also check the NHTSA website or contact their local Ford dealer to determine if their vehicle is impacted. Repairs related to these recalls will be performed free of charge.
