Flyers' Zegras & Michkov: Crossbar Battles & a New 'Taco' in Town!

The Philadelphia Flyers' training camp is buzzing with excitement as Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov are quickly forging a strong bond, both on and off the ice. Their shared passion for offensive talent and creative puck-handling has led to some spirited, friendly competition after practices.

Zegras vs. Michkov: The Crossbar Challenge

Zegras revealed that he and Michkov have been engaging in a heated game of 'crossbar,' where they try to hit the crossbar with their shots. "He's the only guy that likes to stay out there with me," Zegras said. "We play this game, like, you try to hit the crossbar and he hasn't beaten me yet, so he gets very upset. So usually when we're out there, we're playing crossbar." Michkov, known for his competitive spirit, reportedly doesn't take losing lightly. Zegras jokingly added that Michkov seeks redemption in shootouts, where he feels he has a better chance.

'Taco' Tocchet: A New Nickname Emerges

Adding to the lighthearted atmosphere, Zegras has apparently given Flyers coach Rick Tocchet a new nickname: 'Taco.' Tocchet, who boasts an impressive NHL career and a Jack Adams Award, seems to embrace the moniker. "I think with a guy like (Zegras), his personality is great for a room. He smiles and I think he calls me 'Taco' now... I don't know what he's calling me," Tocchet laughed. The team even playfully inquired about players' favorite taco orders, further solidifying the nickname's popularity.

Finding the Right Line Chemistry

The Flyers are exploring the optimal linemates for Zegras and Michkov. While their offensive prowess is undeniable, concerns about defensive balance have prompted the coaching staff to consider options. Christian Dvorak has emerged as a potential candidate to complement the duo, with Tocchet highlighting his ability to win battles in the corners and effectively distribute the puck to Zegras and Michkov. The Flyers are keen on finding a combination that maximizes the offensive potential of Zegras and Michkov while maintaining defensive responsibility.

The Flyers' training camp is proving to be an exciting preview of the season ahead, with Zegras and Michkov's budding partnership and the team's search for ideal line chemistry creating a buzz among players and fans alike.
