Ukraine Drone Strikes: Moscow Targeted, Zelenskyy Calls for Accountability

Recent escalations in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia have seen a significant increase in drone warfare. Moscow's mayor reported that at least 10 Ukrainian drones were shot down on approach to the city early Sunday morning, leading to temporary airport restrictions. This follows a pattern of intensified long-range strike operations by both sides, despite ongoing U.S.-brokered peace talks.

Drone Attacks on Moscow and Beyond

According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, emergency services responded to the impact sites of the downed drones. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted a total of 67 Ukrainian drones overnight. Further south, the Tula region governor, Dmitry Milyaev, reported a drone attack on the Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk, resulting in a fire and two injuries. This facility, according to Andriy Kovalenko, a Ukrainian security official, is used to produce explosives, including TNT.

Retaliation and Air Defense

Russia has continued its own long-range attacks on Ukraine, with the Ukrainian air force reporting 49 drones and three missiles fired into the country. They claim to have neutralized 40 of the drones. These escalating attacks have prompted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to urgently call for strengthened air defense capabilities to protect cities across the nation.

  • Moscow targeted by drone strikes.
  • Chemical plant in Novomoskovsk attacked.
  • Zelenskyy calls for improved air defenses.

The intensification of drone warfare highlights the evolving nature of the conflict and the urgent need for de-escalation through diplomatic efforts. The increased frequency of attacks on civilian areas raises concerns about potential casualties and the long-term impact on both nations.
