Mountaineer Nation is buzzing! Former West Virginia University punter and media personality Pat McAfee is heading to the WVU Sports Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2025. The announcement, made on Friday, sparked a wave of excitement and reflection on McAfee's impactful career at WVU.
McAfee, known for his booming punts and fearless attitude on special teams, expressed deep emotion upon receiving the news. He shared on social media that he "shed a tear" when informed by Blaine Stewart, son of the late Coach Bill Stewart, about the honor. Coach Stewart, who served as the Mountaineers' special teams coordinator, held a special place in McAfee's career.
"It was nice to have an opportunity to think back and reminisce about a great era of my life," McAfee tweeted. "I am so thankful for the recognition... this call made my soul feel good."
A Stellar Mountaineer Career
Beyond his on-field prowess, McAfee's charisma and connection with the WVU fanbase solidified his legacy. His willingness to get involved in kickoff and punt coverages, often delivering impactful hits, showcased his dedication and athleticism.
Joining McAfee in the 2025 Hall of Fame class are Chelsea Carrier-Eades (track & field), Bill Kirelawich (football), the late Bill Stewart (football), Darrell Whitmore (baseball/football), and Petra Zublasing (rifle). The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 27, prior to the West Virginia-Utah football game.

A GameDay appearance would undoubtedly amplify the excitement surrounding McAfee's Hall of Fame induction and the Mountaineers' football season.
