Eiii folks! You know say football dey do more than just goals and tackles? Today, we dey talk about how Levante and Real Madrid take use their match to celebrate something really important – World Sign Language Day!
What Happened?
On September 23rd, as part of the global celebration, both Levante and Real Madrid players wore special jerseys. Instead of the usual names, the players’ names were written using the sign language alphabet! E be cool way to show support and awareness.
Why This Matters
Levante UD Foundation dey behind this initiative. Dem wan make sure say people wey get hearing challenges, and sign language get the attention dem deserve. E be all about inclusion and showing love to everybody.
- The teams go auction the jerseys later, and the money wey dem go get go go support social projects wey dey run by their foundations.
- Mireia Chaparro, a footballer from Levante UD EDI School wey get hearing challenge, na she carry the official match ball onto the pitch.
- The Levante UD anthem go dey played and "read" in sign language. Interpreters go dey around the stadium and for the video screens to make sure say everybody dey enjoy am.
Levante UD Foundation say dem plan to dey do this for other matches too. E be big step towards making sure say football dey accessible to all.
