2025 WASSCE Begins Smoothly for Students in Ghana

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates (SC) commenced smoothly across Ghana on Wednesday, August 21, 2025, with Oral English. Over 460,000 students are participating in this year's examination.

Daily Graphic reporters visited several senior high schools in Accra to observe the commencement of the exams. These schools included Odorgonno SHS, Accra High School, St Thomas Aquinas SHS, and Labone SHS. Due to large numbers, many schools divided candidates into batches to accommodate all students taking the exam.

Odorgonno SHS Hosting Multiple Schools

At Odorgonno SHS, students from Talent SHS (30 candidates) and Lapaz Community SHS (373 candidates) joined the host school's 1,188 registered candidates. Out of the registered students for Odorgonno SHS, 1,159 were present, with 29 reported as absent.

Accra High School's Three-Set System

Accra High School, with 652 candidates, implemented a three-set system to manage the examination process. Assistant Headmistress Monica Botchway confirmed that question papers arrived on time, and no immediate problems were reported. The total number of absentees will be determined after all sets have completed their exams.

Positive Start at St Thomas Aquinas SHS

Rev. Fr Dr George Obeng Appah, Headmaster of St Thomas Aquinas SHS, stated that the school presented 728 candidates. He also confirmed the timely arrival of question papers and reported a smooth commencement. Like Accra High School, the number of absentees will be confirmed after all four sets of students have completed their examination.

Overall, the WASSCE for School Candidates has started positively across Ghana, with schools implementing strategies to ensure a seamless examination process. Educators express optimism for student performance, citing thorough preparation efforts.
