Five English Premier League (EPL) clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on Super Eagles attacker Nathan Tella. Scouts from these clubs were present at Stamford Bridge on Friday during Bayer Leverkusen’s pre-season friendly against Chelsea to assess Tella's performance.
Which Clubs Are Interested in Tella?
The clubs reportedly monitoring the Nigerian winger include Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Burnley, and Brentford. Tella, 26, joined Bayer Leverkusen from Southampton in a €23.3 million deal two years ago but has struggled to cement a regular starting position at the BayArena.
Despite showing glimpses of his talent, Tella has found it difficult to consistently deliver impressive performances since his move to Germany. Under former coach Xabi Alonso, he was deployed in various positions, hindering his ability to find a consistent rhythm. However, his situation seems to be improving under new coach Erik ten Hag, who is utilising him primarily as a winger – his natural position.
Why the EPL Interest?
Despite his inconsistent form at Bayer Leverkusen, Tella’s pace, trickery, and clinical finishing ability in the penalty area continue to attract admirers from England’s top flight. In his first season with Die Werkself, the Super Eagles star contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in 79 appearances, decent numbers for a wide player.
What's Next for Tella?
According to TBR Football, the presence of scouts from these five Premier League sides during the friendly encounter suggests a growing interest in securing Tella's services. While it remains unknown whether any formal approaches have been made, interested clubs will need to act swiftly as the Premier League season resumes next week.
