Mbeumo to Man U? Shock R70M Bid as Ratcliffe Reels in Iceland!

Manchester United are reportedly making a strong push to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with a new bid potentially worth up to £70 million (approximately R1.6 Billion ZAR). Sky Sports News and other sources indicate that United have submitted a third offer, an initial £65 million with £5 million in add-ons.

Discussions are ongoing, but Brentford has yet to officially respond. United are eager to secure Mbeumo's services before their pre-season tour of the US, hoping he can integrate with the squad and feature in some games, starting with the West Ham match on July 27th.

According to reports, Brentford is unlikely to sell both Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa this summer, potentially prompting United to act swiftly amidst Newcastle's interest in Wissa. Mbeumo, a Cameroon international, reportedly prefers a move to Old Trafford. Tottenham, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, also showed interest.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's influence is also playing a role. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox met with Ratcliffe in Iceland to discuss transfer strategy. Reportedly, the face-to-face meeting and Ratcliffe's preference for in-person decision-making were key to stepping up the Mbeumo bid. United are looking to improve their attacking output after a disappointing season where they struggled to convert chances, scoring their fewest Premier League goals since 1973-74.

The potential arrival of Mbeumo could impact the roles of existing players. It might see Bruno Fernandes playing in a deeper position, with new signing Matheus Cunha potentially taking one of the inside forward slots. The transfer could also further sideline Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony, who are currently out of favour. Man United have already signed forward Matheus Cunha and defender Diego Leon this summer.

United open their league season against Arsenal at Old Trafford on 17 August. The acquisition of Mbeumo would be a significant boost to their squad ahead of the new campaign.

What does Mbeumo Bring to the Table?

  • Premier League Proven: Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals last season.
  • Versatility: He can play in multiple attacking positions.
  • Ambitious: His preference is reportedly to join Manchester United.
