HS Football SHOCKER! Prince Avenue Christian Dominates After Delay!

Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines stunned Callaway in their Georgia high school football opener, securing a decisive 40-17 victory. The game, part of the 34th annual Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, initially saw the Wolverines trailing 17-13 at halftime. However, a combination of strategic adjustments and weather delays proved pivotal in their comeback.

Weather Delay Sparks a Wolverine Surge

Two significant weather delays, one at halftime and another early in the third quarter, disrupted the game's flow. These stoppages appeared to favor Prince Avenue Christian, allowing them to regroup and strategize.

Musser's Debut Fuels the Comeback

New quarterback Brent Musser ignited the Wolverines' offense after the second delay. He immediately broke free for a 63-yard touchdown run, propelling Prince Avenue Christian into the lead at 20-17. Musser's impressive performance included completing 11 of 17 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a remarkable 192 rushing yards.

Beard's Rushing Prowess Extends the Lead

Junior running back Andrew Beard further solidified the Wolverines' advantage with a 54-yard touchdown run following Musser's score, extending their lead to 26-17. Beard concluded the game with an impressive 187 rushing yards.

Prince Avenue Christian added two more touchdowns in the second half, while their defense maintained a shutout, sealing the 40-17 victory. This win marks a successful debut for new Wolverines head coach Jon Richt.

The Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic continues with a four-day, 11-game lineup showcasing top high school football talent across various venues, including Kell High School, Rome Barron Stadium, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
