Bills Sign New Kicker! Will He Replace Injured Tyler Bass?

The Buffalo Bills have signed kicker Caden Davis to bolster their special teams during the preseason. This move comes as starting kicker Tyler Bass is sidelined with a pelvic injury, leaving a void in the kicking game. Bass has missed eight straight practices, prompting the Bills to seek a temporary replacement.

Caden Davis, an undrafted free agent in 2025, was recently waived by the New York Jets. He brings a powerful leg and a solid college track record to Buffalo. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that the team evaluated two kickers before settling on Davis.

Prior to Davis's arrival, running back Ray Davis had been filling in at kicker during practice. While Ray Davis showed some promise, going 2-for-3 on field goals during a recent practice, the Bills clearly needed a specialist to handle the kicking duties during the preseason games.

Caden Davis's College Career

Caden Davis split his college career between Ole Miss (2003-2024) and Texas A&M (1999-2022). At 6-foot and 200 pounds, he possesses a strong build and a reputation for a powerful leg. He was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2024, recognizing the nation's top kicker, after a record-breaking season at Ole Miss. He set the school's single-season scoring record with 129 points, ranking 10th in the FBS. In 2024, he went 24-for-29 (82.8%) on field goals and 57-for-59 on extra points, with 82 touchbacks on 96 kickoffs (85.4%).

Davis's Stats at Ole Miss

  • Made 42 of 52 field goals (80.8%)
  • Converted 102 of 104 extra points
  • Holds the school record with four field goals of 50+ yards
  • Named second-team All-SEC by College Football Network in 2024

Bass will not play in the Bills' preseason opener against the Giants. The team expects Bass to be ready for their second preseason game against the Bears on August 17th.
