Deadly DUI Crash: Suspect Arraigned After State Parks Employee Killed!

Tragic DUI Crash Claims Life of Young Parks Employee

OROVILLE, CA – Fernando Martiez Lynch, 38, of Oakley, CA, has been arraigned on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing injury following a devastating crash on Highway 162 in Butte County. The incident resulted in the death of 19-year-old Zohie Lonsberry, a California State Parks employee.

The fatal collision occurred on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at approximately 7:15 p.m. near Loafer Creek State Park outside of Oroville. According to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Lynch allegedly drove his Dodge Ram 1500 truck across a double yellow line, entering the opposing lane and crashing into the driver's side of a Toyota Corolla driven by Zohie Lonsberry.

The impact was catastrophic. The collision reportedly tore the roof off the Corolla and flipped Lynch's truck. Zohie Lonsberry tragically died at the scene, and her 22-year-old brother, David Anthony Lonsberry, a passenger in the Corolla, sustained severe injuries.

Repeat Offender with a History of DUI

A review of Lynch's criminal history reveals a troubling pattern. He had a suspended license and four prior DUI convictions in Santa Barbara and Alameda Counties in 2005, 2009, 2021, and 2023. Furthermore, he had a pending DUI case out of Yuba County and failed to appear for his arraignment.

District Attorney Ramsey stated that the charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with two prior DUI convictions in the last ten years carries a potential sentence of 15 years to life in prison, similar to a second-degree murder charge. He also faces 20 years to life in prison for causing injury to David Lonsberry.

Lynch is currently in custody without bail. His next court appearance, where he is expected to enter a plea, is scheduled for August 7, 2025.

This is a developing story. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
