Loni Anderson, the iconic actress best known for her role as the empowered receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on the hit 1980s TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has passed away. She died on Sunday in a Los Angeles hospital, just days before her 80th birthday, after battling a prolonged illness, according to her publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” Anderson’s family said in a statement. The news has sent ripples of sadness through the entertainment world and among fans of the classic sitcom.

“WKRP in Cincinnati,” which aired from 1978 to 1982, was a comedic gem set in a struggling Ohio radio station trying to revitalize itself with rock music. Anderson's character, Jennifer Marlowe, was a standout. As the station's receptionist, Jennifer used her intelligence and charm to navigate the often-chaotic world of WKRP, deflecting unwanted calls and keeping things running smoothly despite the incompetence of others.
