Phoenix and the surrounding areas are bracing for a scorching heat wave! The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for south-central Arizona, urging residents to take precautions against dangerously high temperatures.
Extreme Heat Warning in Effect
Valley temperatures are expected to soar between 110 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit over the next week. The Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Friday and Saturday, with the possibility of additional warnings being issued next week.
"Over the next couple of days, we're going to be looking at temperatures around 110, potentially up to around 113 degrees, which is above average," said Ryan Worley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix. The normal temperature for Phoenix in early August is 106 degrees.

- Limit Outdoor Activity: Try to avoid being outside between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.
- Protect Your Pets: Keep your pets indoors to prevent them from overheating.
- Take Breaks: If you must work outdoors, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade or inside an air-conditioned space.
Up north, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for parts of the Grand Canyon below 4,000 feet in elevation until 7 p.m. Sunday. Temperatures down in the canyon could reach a dangerously hot 103 to 113 degrees.
