Mass Shooting Rocks Atlanta's Sweet Auburn Neighborhood
A night of violence has gripped Atlanta's Sweet Auburn neighborhood, leaving one man dead and ten others injured in a mass shooting. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Edgewood Avenue, near the intersection of Hilliard Street, according to Atlanta police.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 27-year-old man with severe injuries. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Multiple Victims Rushed to Hospital
In addition to the deceased, ten other victims, ranging in age from 18 to 29, were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. While police reported most victims were in stable condition, at least one individual underwent emergency surgery. The extent of their injuries remains unclear.
Atlanta Police Captain Jeff Childers stated that the suspect or suspects are believed to have been on foot. Authorities are investigating multiple shell casings found at the scene. The motive for the shooting is still under investigation. Initial reports suggest witnesses observed a group of armed individuals in the area prior to the incident.
Other Shootings on Edgewood Avenue
Adding to the chaos, police responded to two other separate shootings on Edgewood Avenue that same night. One incident involved a person shot multiple times at Edgewood and Hilliard Street following a parking dispute. Another individual was shot in the ankle at Edgewood and Boulevard. Both victims are reported to be in stable condition. Police do not believe these incidents are related to the mass shooting.
The Atlanta Police Department is urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
