Amazon Expands Delivery Network: New Stations Coming to Arkansas & Iowa!

Amazon is bolstering its delivery infrastructure with new “last mile” facilities planned for Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Fort Dodge, Iowa. These stations represent a significant investment in local economies and promise faster delivery times for customers in these regions.

Amazon's Fort Smith Investment

In Fort Smith, Amazon recently purchased nearly 18 acres of land for $1.3 million, signaling its commitment to expanding its presence in Arkansas. This follows the opening of a similar delivery station in Lowell earlier in 2022. Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $2.6 billion in Arkansas, creating thousands of jobs. The new facility will be located at 4300 Geren Road, in the Buske Drive Industrial Park area.

According to Amazon, the Fort Smith facility will function as a “last mile” delivery station. Packages will arrive from fulfillment and sortation centers and be processed for delivery directly to customers' doorsteps. While the exact number of jobs the new facility will create is yet to be determined, Amazon’s expansion is generally seen as a positive sign for the local economy.

Fort Dodge Welcomes Amazon

Meanwhile, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Amazon has also purchased property to build a delivery station in the Decker Development Park. Local leaders have expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the collaboration between government and the private sector. This facility will also serve as a “last mile” delivery station, sorting packages and loading them into vans for final delivery to customers.

What is a "Last Mile" Delivery Station?

  • The final stage in Amazon's logistical system.
  • Packages are sorted and loaded into vans for delivery.
  • Enables faster, everyday delivery directly to customers.

These investments in Fort Smith and Fort Dodge demonstrate Amazon's ongoing commitment to improving its delivery network and supporting local communities. The new facilities promise to bring jobs and faster service to customers in Arkansas and Iowa.
