The Los Angeles Chargers just dropped some serious heat! On Tuesday, the team unveiled not one, but TWO new alternate uniforms: the 'Charger Power' and 'Super Chargers' looks. They've also added powder blue pants to their primary uniform kit, giving fans even more options to rep their team.
A Nod to the Past, a Leap to the Future
These new alternates are designed to evoke feelings of nostalgia, harking back to the late 1970s/early 1980s 'Air Coryell' era and the 1990s/early 2000s when the Chargers dominated the AFC. They're a modern twist on classic looks, blending the best of both worlds.
Gold Rush: A First for the Chargers
For the first time in franchise history, the Chargers will sport gold jerseys! This groundbreaking uniform will debut during the Week 7 Legends Weekend game against the Colts at SoFi Stadium. Imagine the energy! While a retail version existed before, this marks the official on-field debut of the gold alternate.
Why Gold?
According to President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos, a retail version of a gold jersey from 2020 proved incredibly popular, especially with younger fans. "It sold quite well and had really good word of mouth. In fact, in my own household, it was my kids' favorite uniform," Spanos said. "Ultimately, it captured a lot of things we were looking to accomplish with an alternate uniform. It was a nod to the past but still had a youthful energy."
Derwin James, Jr. Approves!
Star safety Derwin James, Jr. is a big fan of the Chargers' uniform game. "I feel like the Chargers have the best uniforms," James said. "There's just something about the powder blue, the white, the gold. And after these new alternates drop, it won't be close."
So, are you ready to rock the new Chargers gear? The alternate looks are available now, so gear up and show your support for the Bolts!
