Camp Pendleton Marines are once again playing a crucial role in securing the southern border. A new contingent of approximately 500 Marines and sailors from Combat Logistics Battalion 15, 1st Marine Logistics, has been deployed as Task Force Forge under Joint Task Force–Southern Border. This deployment follows a previous mission by Task Force Sapper, also composed of Camp Pendleton Marines.
Task Force Forge Takes Over in Yuma Sector
Task Force Forge has assumed operational responsibilities, providing vital engineering and logistical support. Their primary area of operation is the Yuma sector, where they will bolster existing support activities. Lt. Col. Colin Graham, commanding officer of Task Force Forge, emphasized the clarity of their mission.
Remembering Task Force Sapper's Sacrifice
The deployment of Task Force Forge comes after the earlier deployment of Task Force Sapper to San Diego and El Paso. Tragically, two Marines from Task Force Sapper, Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino, lost their lives in a vehicle accident in New Mexico while on duty. The new group of Marines received hands-on training from Task Force Sapper before assuming their responsibilities.
Imperial Beach Deployment
Recently, Marines previously stationed in Campo have been moved to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol Station, according to a military spokesperson. This repositioning suggests a shift in priorities and resource allocation along the border.
Reinforcing the Border Wall
Prior to their redeployment, Marines had been actively involved in reinforcing the border wall in areas like Campo. This involved installing barbed wire and concertina wire to strengthen existing barriers. The work was described as a complex operation involving heavy machinery and close coordination between different groups of Marines.
