UFC star Jon Jones is facing more legal trouble stemming from a car accident that occurred in February. New criminal charges have been filed against the recently retired fighter in New Mexico.
New Charges Filed Against Jon Jones
According to reports, a second case was filed against Jones on June 30th. While he's already accused of leaving the scene of an accident, he now faces an additional charge: "Use of Telephone to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten, Harass, Annoy or Offend." This stems from the same incident.
The original police report details an incident on Feb. 21st involving a two-vehicle crash. Jones allegedly left the scene. A woman found in the passenger seat of one of the vehicles exhibited signs of intoxication and was partially unclothed. She claimed Jones was driving and fled on foot.
Intoxication and Alleged Threats
The woman reportedly called Jones, and a police service aide spoke with him. The aide stated that Jones appeared heavily intoxicated and made statements implying his ability to use lethal force through third parties. An officer who later spoke with Jones reported similar allusions to violence.
Jones later told police that the person on the phone used unprofessional language, leading him to question the caller's legitimacy. Police subpoenaed Jones' call records and found that he called the woman 13 times between 2:17 a.m. and 11:34 a.m. There was also a gap in his phone records around the time of the accident.
Jones' attorney calls the case "truly unbelievable" and suggests he is being targeted. The legal saga continues to unfold.
