Skyler Gisondo Almost Played Superman?! The Wild Audition Story!

Did you know Skyler Gisondo, now playing Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming 'Superman' film, originally thought he was auditioning for the Man of Steel himself? The actor recently revealed his initial surprise and amusement when he realized he was actually up for the role of the Daily Planet's iconic photographer.

Gisondo's Initial Superman Dreams

Gisondo admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he initially believed he was in the running for the coveted Superman role. “I thought it would have been a bad casting choice,” he joked, adding that he even considered bulking up before seeing David Corenswet's progress. “I thought, I don’t want to upstage him, and so I really scaled back and I let him shine.” He praised Corenswet, stating, “Within 10 seconds of meeting him you think, ‘Man, this is Superman.’”

Honoring the Superman Legacy

Gisondo also shared insights into how the new 'Superman' film honors the franchise's rich history while forging its own path. Speaking with E! News, he emphasized the film's core themes: “It gets to the core of what Superman has always been about, which is an exploration of what it means to be human. It's ultimately a story of hope, and this is a really deeply hopeful Superman and a hopeful film.”

Finding His Jimmy Olsen

Stepping into Jimmy Olsen's shoes wasn't without its challenges. Gisondo initially felt pressure to emulate past portrayals. “When you get the part, your first instinct is to do the homework and watch everything and I started to, and I immediately just thought, ‘Oh my God.’ I was freaking out,” he confessed. He eventually decided to trust his instincts and create his own interpretation of the character. Director James Gunn's support was crucial: “Anytime I was getting in my own way, he would just remind me, ‘You are Jimmy, man. Don't. You're it. I wanted to cast you for a reason.’”

A Collaborative Set

Gisondo highlighted the collaborative atmosphere on set, praising Gunn for fostering an environment where the cast could explore their characters freely. Alongside Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult, the film features a stellar supporting cast including Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Beck Bennett.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the new 'Superman' film to see Gisondo's take on Jimmy Olsen and Corenswet's debut as the iconic superhero. Will this new iteration soar to new heights? Only time will tell!
