Fireworks Attack on Bethany Beach: Police Seek Suspect

Bethany Beach, DE - A chaotic scene unfolded in Bethany Beach this week as police are searching for a suspect who allegedly launched fireworks at bystanders. The incident occurred near the 100 block of Garfield Parkway, leaving multiple people injured.

According to Bethany Beach Police, the suspect ignited fireworks on July 2nd and then aimed a mortar-style firework directly into a crowd gathered on the beach. Responding officers immediately pursued the suspect, but were unable to apprehend him.

Police describe the suspect as a Black male, approximately 18 to 20 years old, around six feet tall, and weighing about 180 pounds. He has short dreadlock-style hair and a distinctive scar or scratch located under his right eye. Images of the suspect were captured on police body camera footage from the night of the incident.

The Bethany Beach Police Department is urging anyone with information about the suspect or who can identify him to contact them immediately at 302-539-1000. The investigation is ongoing.
